Most people think joy means everything’s okay. But joy begins the moment you notice that something that matters is still happening, my relationship with G-d, even when life isn’t easy.
Joy isn’t about escape; it’s about awareness.
It’s the shift that happens when you see the miracle in what’s already here: the air that fills your lungs without asking, the person who checked in when you needed it, the second chances that appear in ordinary days.
Gratitude opens the door, and joy steps in behind it.
Happiness depends on circumstances, it’s about how things turn out.
Joy lives in the present, it’s about what you notice right now. You can be joyful even in pain, because joy isn’t about perfection, it’s about presence, realizing I’m connected and then feeling awe.
It’s the awareness that this moment, too, is through love.
But joy only breathes when your understanding of G-d is healthy.
If you see Him as critical or distant, joy hides.
Chassidus reveals:
G-d is infinite love expressed through wisdom and knowledge, not control. He isn’t testing you to fail; He’s inviting you to partner in bringing goodness and kindness to life. When you see Him that way, joy isn’t forced optimism,
it’s safety. It’s knowing: I’m known. I’m wanted. I’m not alone.
The 7th chabad Rebbe taught that we will bring Messiah through simcha (joy). Because joy itself is redemption in miniature.
Exile doesn’t only mean distance, it’s the inner state of fear, shame, or feeling unworthy. But ‘simcha poretz geder’ – joy breaks boundaries. Each time you find gratitude inside struggle, you loosen the hold of exile, and start living as your future self, as if the world were already whole.
When awareness, relationship, and healthy faith come together, you feel reconnected, to yourself, to others, and to G-d. That connection is home. It’s not the joy of escape, but the peace of returning, the moment you feel how near G-d has always been.
Every heartbeat of joy lifts the world a little higher, turning awareness into light (acts of kindness and justice), and light into redemption.
