“Your opinion doesn’t matter.”
That thought feels safer for them.
But instead of saying it out loud, they make rules to support it.
They might say:
1. “I’m always right.”
2. “I don’t need advice.”
3. “People are too sensitive.”
4. “Strong people don’t listen to imperfect people.”
These rules sound like values.
But they were made to avoid feeling uncomfortable.
If your opinion mattered, they would have to:
1. listen
2. feel wrong
3. change
4. or feel emotions
That feels scary to them.
So they protect themselves by deciding:
“Your opinion doesn’t count.”
That’s why you can’t change their values. Those values aren’t about what’s truth. They’re about avoiding discomfort.
