A lesson on people pleasing

“People pleasing is an opposite of being humble”

and self centeredness from Torah.

Tzvi Hirsch of Nadvorna, in Tzemach Hashem LeTzvi, explains that an idol isn’t just a statue or object—it’s the energy of people pleasing.

Rabbi YY Jacobson puts it like this: an idol is like a relationship where the “idol” will accept anything,

While the person who worships it takes advantage of that acceptance to get what they want without really respecting the idol’s true value.
