A real relationship with the Creator of the universe is not built on guessing.
It is built on knowing who you are relating to.
That’s why the Rambam wrote the principles of faith. Not to create belief. But to remove confusion.
Why the Rambam comes first.
The Rambam explains that the Creator is:
1. One
2. Not a body
3. Not limited by time or space
4. Not emotional like people
5. Always consistent
6. Always good
If you don’t know this, you can’t really trust Him. And without trust, real relationship is not possible.
Belief is not relationship Many people believe the Creator exists. But belief alone does not create closeness.
Relationship needs:
• trust
• safety
• honesty
The Rambam’s principles give that safety.
They teach that the Creator is not random, not cruel, not reactive, and not confused.
That makes relationship possible.
How relationship actually begins.
Once relationship is possible, it begins with awe. Awe is the feeling that:
Something far greater than you is real, present, and safe to turn toward.
Awe is not excitement. Excitement has no sadness. It is fast and fades quickly. Awe includes a gentle sadness,
the sadness of noticing the distance between you and something infinite.
Not as punishment.
Not as fear.
Just honest awareness.
Why meditation is needed:
You don’t think your way into awe all at once.
You stay with one truth long enough for it to land. Meditation is focused thinking. You choose one true idea and stay with it. That’s why the Alter Rebbe taught meditations.
These meditations help you reflect on what the Rambam already clarified:
1. the Creator holds the whole universe
2. nothing exists on its own
3. your life is known and sustained
4. your choices still matter
When this becomes felt, awe naturally appears.
Awe opens the relationship
Awe leads to:
1. humility without shame
2. closeness without fear
3. trust without denial
From awe, real relationship begins.
