One purpose of praying at the grave of a righteous person

is that they are a channel of unconditional love.

Your body recognizes that energy, it has known it before, and it can help you notice what your requests are, and sharing your requests with that soul can boost your self-esteem, because it helps you feel you matter.

That feeling helps you believe your voice matters, so you can plead with G-d more strongly. You’re not meant to plead to a soul. Having another soul pray for your requests is also helpful.

A relationship with the Infinite Creator of the universe is happening when you turn to Him. And the more you plead, the more connected, humility, you feel.

Connection awakens awe, and awe isn’t one emotion.

Awe is a blend that awakens your soul:

1. joy — because you feel connected,

2. sadness — because you also feel separate,

3. fear — because the relationship is real,

4. wonder — because you’re astonished that He is good.

Just like human connection begins with curiosity, connection with the Infinite begins with awe, that moment you notice His goodness and feel safe enough to speak honestly.

Awe deepens through your words, and awe begins the relationship again. Awe allows you to feel joy.

Joy leads to acts of love with boundaries, and that’s how G-dliness spreads in the world.
