Many people think they are choosing physical pleasure over spirituality.
Often they are choosing the only form of comfort they can still feel.
When a person has learned to survive through fear, shame, or emotional numbness, physical comfort may feel much more real than a relationship with the Creator.
That does not always mean they do not want Him.
It may mean they do not yet have the emotional ability to feel closeness with Him.
__________
Why do we say the Creator is not love?
A common spiritual phrase says, “The Creator is love.”
But the Creator is not love.
He is beyond every description.
Love is something He created and one of the ways we experience a relationship with Him.
It is not a definition of His Essence.
The Creator is also not awe, wisdom, kindness, or power.
These are ways His goodness becomes known within creation, but He is beyond them all.
__________
How does feeling loved make belief feel real?
Feeling loved can still deepen our felt knowing of the Creator.
When a person feels genuinely loved, it becomes easier to trust, receive goodness, stay curious, be honest, and remain present in relationship.
These emotional skills help develop *daas*: a felt knowing that becomes part of how a person experiences life.
A person may believe in the Creator for many years.
But as they become more able to receive love, that belief may begin to feel real.
The relationship becomes something they can experience, not only something they understand.
__________
How do curiosity and meditation lead to awe?
The process can begin with curiosity.
Curiosity notices patterns in life.
Meditation means thinking about those patterns deeply enough to realize that the Creator is not only the cause of existence.
He is giving existence to this moment right now.
Then healthy awe arises:
“The Infinite Creator is here.”
Awe begins with the realization of closeness.
The Creator is no less present here than He is anywhere else.
The person feels wonder, humility, and the importance of standing before the Source of life.
__________
Why can love for the Creator hold sadness?
Healthy awe naturally awakens love.
When a person begins to feel, “The Infinite Creator is here,” they also begin to feel:
“If He is truly here, I want to be closer.”
That intimacy can contain sadness because love means wanting a closeness that is not yet fully experienced.
The Creator is already present, but the person does not yet feel or reveal that relationship as deeply as they desire.
The sadness says:
“Your goodness could be more revealed in me.”
“Your presence could be more revealed in the world.”
“I feel close enough to know how much more closeness I desire.”
This sadness is not the opposite of love.
It is part of intimacy.
It comes from valuing the relationship enough to feel the distance that still remains.
__________
How can sadness and joy live in the same love?
Joy also exists within that love because the distance can become smaller.
Deeper closeness is possible.
The sadness feels how much of the relationship is still hidden.
The joy feels that more of it can become revealed.
Healthy spiritual love can therefore contain sadness and joy at the same time.
__________
Do these feelings describe the Creator’s Essence?
This helps explain why the Creator is not love.
Awe is our response to realizing that He is here.
Healthy awe awakens love.
Love is our desire to become closer to Him, and sadness is part of that love because the relationship is not yet as revealed as we desire.
Joy is also part of love because greater closeness is possible.
The Creator is beyond all of these feelings.
They describe the way a human nervous system experiences a growing relationship with Him.
They do not describe His Essence.
__________
How does the physical world hint at His Essence?
Yet the physical world can still hint to something about His Essence.
Human beings in the physical world each experience life through a separate body and nervous system.
Those nervous systems can carry different fears, needs, memories, survival patterns, and ways of understanding life.
Because of those differences, closeness between people is not automatic.
It must be freely chosen and slowly developed through humility, compassion, healthy boundaries, communication, and responsibility.
When two people with separate nervous systems learn to remain connected without controlling, erasing, or escaping each other, opposites begin to unite.
They remain separate people.
Their differences remain real.
But those differences no longer have to create division.
They can become part of a deeper unity.
This unity does not describe the Creator’s Essence.
But it hints to a reality beyond every description:
The Creator is One.
The physical world is where separate human beings, living through separate nervous systems, can freely choose unity without losing their individuality.
That is how the lowest world can allude to the Creator’s Essence.
__________
What is spiritual growth really about?
Spiritual growth is not about escaping physical life.
It is about developing a nervous system that can notice the Creator and remain present in relationship.
Curiosity notices patterns.
Meditation recognizes that the Creator is here.
Healthy awe feels His closeness.
Awe causes love if there is trust.
Intimacy can contain sadness because the relationship is not yet as revealed as we desire.
It also contains joy because deeper closeness and relationship is possible.
And life becomes an ongoing conversation with the Creator.
Questions people ask
Why do people choose physical comfort over closeness with the Creator?
Often they are not rejecting Him. When someone has survived through fear, shame, or emotional numbness, physical comfort feels much more real than relationship. That does not always mean they do not want Him. It may mean the emotional ability to feel closeness with Him has not been built yet.
If the Creator is not love, what is love?
Love is something the Creator made, and one of the ways we experience a relationship with Him. It is not a definition of His Essence. The same is true of awe, wisdom, kindness, and power. They are ways His goodness becomes known inside creation, and He is beyond them all.
Which emotional skills help a person feel close to the Creator?
Trust, receiving goodness, curiosity, honesty, and staying present in relationship. These emotional skills help develop daas, a felt knowing that becomes part of how a person experiences life. Curiosity notices patterns, meditation recognizes that the Creator is giving existence right now, and healthy awe feels His closeness.
Can love for the Creator include sadness and joy at the same time?
Yes. Sadness is part of intimacy, because love means wanting a closeness that is not yet fully experienced. It comes from valuing the relationship enough to feel the distance that still remains. Joy lives there too, because the distance can become smaller and deeper closeness is possible.

The blog lists all the difference patterns to study, understanding patterns is how one can develop 'Daas' [felt knowing].
Update: As awe, trust, and love deepen, they can allow greater openness and intimacy with the Creator. That intimacy can include sadness when you notice how much more of His goodness can be revealed.
