It’s practicing relationship with the One who gives the world existence.

How is spirituality different from information?

Spirituality is not information. It’s interaction.

Talking.

Listening.

Arguing.

Thanking.

Crying.

Trusting again.

Why is the Book of Psalms a book of intimacy?

The Book of Psalms is not poetry about ideas. It’s a book of intimacy.

King David doesn’t pretend to be calm.

He says:

“Why are You hiding?”

“I trust You.”

“From the depths I call.”

“You are my shepherd.”

Joy.

Fear.

Confusion.

Gratitude.

Longing.

He brings all of it into the relationship. That’s spirituality. Not perfection. Practice.

What does the practice look like?

Staying in dialogue with the Source of reality.

A spiritual journey is not escaping the world.

Questions people ask

What is spirituality?

Spirituality is practicing relationship with the One who gives the world existence. It is not information. It is interaction. You talk, you listen, you argue, you thank, you cry, and you trust again. Put simply, spirituality means staying in dialogue with the Source of reality.

Does spirituality mean being perfect?

No. Spirituality is not perfection. It is practice. King David says, “From the depths I call,” and he also says, “You are my shepherd.” He brings all of it into the relationship, the low moments and the trusting ones. Practicing means staying in that relationship, not getting it perfect.

Is it okay to argue with G-d?

Yes. Arguing is part of the relationship, just like talking and thanking. In the Book of Psalms, King David asks, “Why are You hiding?” He also says, “I trust You.” He does not pretend to be calm. Being honest about what you feel is part of the practice.

Is a spiritual journey about escaping the world?

No. A spiritual journey is not escaping the world. The relationship is with the One who gives the world existence. The Book of Psalms shows what that looks like: King David feels joy, fear, confusion, gratitude, and longing, and none of it is left out of the relationship.
