The Creator wants our relationship with Him to include belief because belief makes a stronger kind of intimacy possible.
Deep intimacy requires trust. Trust means remaining connected even when everything is not fully visible, understood, or emotionally felt.
In any close relationship, you must believe there is more inside the other person than what you can currently see.
You sometimes have to trust their love even when you do not fully understand their actions, feelings, or inner world.
The same is true in our relationship with the Creator.
Trusting the Creator means believing that one lifetime of struggle, uncertainty, and difficult choices is worth an endless World to Come filled with revealed goodness.
It means trusting that the meaning of this life is greater than what we can currently notice, and that no sincere act of goodness, sacrifice, or faith is lost.
But a relationship with the Creator is not meant to remain only an intellectual belief.
As we notice the patterns of infinite wisdom around us, belief can become awe.
Awe includes wonder at the greatness of existence, fear from recognizing that the Creator is here and our choices truly matter, and humility as we recognize how limited our present understanding is.
Trust then allows awe to grow into love.
Love of the Creator can include joy in feeling close to the Source of life, but also sadness because His goodness can always be revealed more, and we can always know and feel closer to Him than we do now.
Both emotions show that the relationship matters.
For many people, these feelings are difficult to access.
Generational trauma, emotional neglect, and long periods of survival can train the nervous system to reduce wonder, fear, sadness, joy, and even love.
Emotional numbness does not necessarily mean the relationship is absent.
It can mean the nervous system has not yet developed enough safety and emotional strength to feel it fully.
Faith allows a person to remain connected while that ability slowly grows.
Faith says:
“I do not understand everything, and I may not feel everything yet. But I trust that Your reality is greater than my current understanding.
I trust that Your goodness is present even when it is hidden, and that this life is leading toward a goodness that will one day be fully revealed.”
This does not mean rejecting reason or pretending suffering is good.
It means recognizing that the Infinite Creator cannot be measured by what the human mind can understand, or what the nervous system can feel, during one limited lifetime.
The Creator’s hiddenness creates the possibility of faith.
Faith allows trust.
Trust allows awe and love to grow.
And that intimacy allows greater pleasure, because the greatest pleasure is not merely receiving goodness from the Creator.
It is knowing, trusting, loving, and feeling close to the Source of all goodness.
