If you can’t feel sadness, you can’t feel real joy.

Not because sadness is the goal. But because sadness is part of awe.

Awe is when something feels bigger than you and you realize you are connected to it.

It stretches you.

It humbles you.

It reminds you that life matters.

Sadness is often the feeling of touching something meaningful and realizing it isn’t fully in your hands.

That feeling helps create awe (along with wonder and fear). But awe only becomes safe when it’s joined with trust.

Real awe happens when you realize the Infinite Creator is good.

Not threatening.

Not cruel.

Good.

That’s when awe turns into the beginning of relationship.

And joy doesn’t come before awe. Joy comes after awe.

Joy is what happens when you let life be big, meaningful, and real and you trust that the One who made it is good.

Only then do you start to care about your soul. Only then does joy become real.

No sadness → no awe.

No awe → no trust.

No trust → no real joy.

Awe first.

Relationship begins.

Joy follows.
