like deep awe is often to listen to a nigun (music is quickest way to feel awe).
The Alter Rebbe’s nigun “Kol Dodi Dofek” is based on the verse:
“I sleep, but my heart is awake. The voice of my beloved is knocking.”
Song of Songs 5:2

Rabbi Akiva said that Song of Songs is the Holy of Holies of Torah, because it describes the deepest relationship between the Creator and the soul.
According to this belief, a soul is the part of a person that can feel emotions and experience a relationship with the Creator.
The Alter Rebbe explains that relationship with the Creator begins when a person feels awe.
Awe is not only fear.
Awe includes sadness that His goodness can always be more revealed, fear before His greatness because our choices matter, and wonder that the Infinite Creator chooses to relate to a physical world.
That wonder is based on a deep belief: the Creator has pleasure when there is giving, yet this does not cause any change in Him or diminish His perfect Oneness.
The relationship is real, yet the Creator remains One, infinite, and unchanged.
This is why the heart is awake.
King David says, “Let every soul praise G-d.”
Psalm 150:6
Expressing appreciation deepens felt awe.
Chazal explain that neshamah, soul, and neshimah, breath, are connected. Every breath of existence contains praise to the Creator.
A nigun helps a nervous system notice what is already there.
The soul is already connected. The breath already contains praise.
The heart is already awake.
The nigun helps the nervous system feel it.
That is why a nigun awakens awe, wonder, love, and longing more quickly than words.
It helps a person hear the knock that was already there.

You have a belief about the One cause of the universe, you can believe it has intelligence, free choice, and a desire to give, or believe it’s random, or believe it’s too mystical to have beliefs about.
