Awe is the awareness that the Creator is infinitely greater than us, yet our choices still matter to Him.
For some people, that awareness begins with fear and wonder.
They feel:
1. “The Creator is truly here.”
2. “My choices matter before Him.”
3. “Reality is much greater than what I can understand or control.”
This fear is not panic or terror.
It is the seriousness that comes from realizing that life is real, our actions have meaning, and we are standing before the Creator of existence.
Wonder is the amazement that the Infinite Creator wants human beings to know Him, choose goodness, and participate in revealing His purpose.
Fear makes the relationship feel serious.
Wonder makes the relationship feel astonishing.
Together, they awaken awe.
Other people first experience love, trust, sadness, or compassion.
They begin by noticing the Creator’s goodness, the gift of life, or their desire for a deeper relationship with Him.
They feel:
1. “I want more of this goodness.”
2. “I care that the Creator’s goodness is still hidden.”
3. “I want to feel closer, but I can still feel the distance.”
This sadness is not hopelessness.
It is the pain of caring.
A person feels the distance because love has already begun.
The more they love the Creator, the more they recognize that He is infinitely beyond anything they can understand or experience.
Love then leads them into awe.
They begin to feel:
“How can the Infinite Creator care about my life?”
“How can Someone beyond every description desire a relationship with me?”
“How can my choices matter before Him?”
Their love reveals the wonder.
The wonder deepens the awe.
These are not completely different kinds of awe.
They are different paths into the same relationship.
For one person:
Fear leads to wonder, wonder awakens love, and love deepens awe.
For another:
Love leads to longing, longing reveals distance, and distance awakens awe.
Both paths eventually include:
1. Fear: My choices truly matter.
2. Wonder: The Infinite Creator desires a relationship with creation.
3. Humility: I am limited, and I am not the center of reality.
4. Love: I want His goodness to become more revealed.
5. Sadness: I feel the pain when that goodness is hidden.
6. Responsibility: I want my choices to reveal more goodness.
Different personalities respond to different thoughts about the Creator’s greatness.
Some people first feel the seriousness of standing before Him.
Others first feel love for His goodness and then become overwhelmed by the greatness of the One they love.
Neither path is greater.
Healthy awe eventually leads to both love and seriousness.
It does not only make a person feel smaller.
It makes life feel more meaningful because the Creator is infinitely beyond us, yet He still wants our choices to matter.
In the Messianic era, that awe will not remain only an inner feeling.
Human responsibility, compassion, and action will reveal the deeper unity already holding creation together.
"Awe doesn't feel the same for everyone. Different personalities and meditations. Same relationship with the Creator."
