We feel the struggle. We feel the options. We feel the responsibility to choose good.

But from G-d’s perspective?

What Makes G-d’s Knowing Different From Ours?

There is no “unknown” for Him to wait and see. His knowing is the energy that creates the moment in which you choose.

Not afterwards. Not as a prediction. Right now, His knowledge is the power holding your reality together. That means free choice exists for us but not from His point of view.

G-d’s knowledge isn’t like human knowledge. We learn about things outside of us. G-d’s knowledge is the thing. His knowing creates it. So when you make a choice, you’re not surprising Him. You’re living inside the very reality His knowing brings into being. You experience real choice. He experiences nothing new.

A Simple Way to Picture It

Think of it like this:

You feel like you’re walking your path step by step. G-d is the One creating the path, the steps, and the one walking them, all at once.

So from inside the story, you’re choosing. From beyond the story, He’s creating. We can choose even though He already knows Because His knowing doesn’t force your choice. It simply contains it. Like an author writing a chapter, the characters still “feel” their decisions, even though the author already wrote them.

What Does This Mean for You?

But in G-d’s case, it’s even deeper:

His knowing sustains the choice, the chooser, and the ability to choose.

What is happening?

We have free choice because we experience life from the inside. G-d doesn’t “watch” our choices, His knowing creates the moment. So nothing is new to Him, but everything is meaningful for us.

This is how a meaningful relationship happens between the Infinite and the finite.

“Free choice is real for us because we live inside the moment G-d is creating, but He knows the story from outside the story, so nothing we choose ever surprises Him.”

Questions people ask

Do we really have free choice if G-d already knows what we will choose?

Yes. The article explains that G-d’s knowing does not work like watching and waiting to see what happens. His knowing is the very energy that creates the moment you choose in, right now, not as a prediction after the fact. That is what makes your choice real for you, from the inside.

How is G-d’s knowledge different from human knowledge?

Human knowledge learns about things that already exist outside of us. The article says G-d’s knowledge works the other way: His knowing is the thing itself, so it creates what it knows instead of discovering it. That is why your choice can feel brand new to you, while nothing is new to Him.

If G-d already wrote the story, why do my choices still feel real?

The article compares it to an author writing a chapter. The characters still feel their decisions as they make them, even though the author already wrote the ending. In the same way, you feel yourself walking your path step by step, even though G-d is creating the path, the steps, and you, all at once.

What does this teaching have to do with taking responsibility?

The article opens by naming the emotional skill of responsibility: we feel the weight of choosing good. It explains that feeling is not a mistake. Because you live inside the story, your choice is meaningful, even though G-d’s knowing already holds it from beyond the story. That is what makes responsibility worth practicing.
