The Messianic Era Would Begin Years After the Jewish People Recognize Their Redeemer
Based on patterns described in Jewish tradition, I believe the Messianic Era [world peace] would begin years after enough Jewish people agree on who the Nasi HaDor [the spiritual leader of the generation] is.
Recognizing the redeemer does not mean everyone has learned to trust his guidance [believing someone is good and trusting them enough to follow their guidance are two different things].
What can the Exodus from Egypt teach about the final redemption?
Kabbalah and Chassidus [Jewish mysticism] teach that the final redemption follows patterns established by the Exodus from Egypt.
According to Jewish tradition, roughly a year passed between Moses beginning his mission to redeem the Jewish people and their actual departure from Egypt.
Yet according to a Midrash, only 20% of the Jewish people left Egypt. The other 80% did not want to leave and died during the plague of darkness.
Why didn't most of the Jewish people leave Egypt?
I understand their unwillingness to leave as a lack of trust in Hashem [the Creator, Cause of existence] and the Nasi He sent.
They were familiar with life in Egypt, even with all its suffering. Leaving meant trusting a future they had never experienced.
How long could preparing everyone for redemption take?
If preparing 20% of the Jewish people for redemption took roughly a year, I think it's reasonable to believe that preparing everyone would take five years, a decade, or even longer. [In Egypt they were living through the 49th level of impurity and we are at the 50th, it’s reasonable it would take us longer].
This is an interpretation of the patterns described in Jewish tradition.
Our current exile is also understood in Chassidus as a deeper spiritual darkness than the exile in Egypt.
And unlike the Exodus from Egypt, the final redemption is meant to include every Jewish person [and all nations will benefit].
Is knowing the Nasi HaDor the same as trusting him?
Knowing who the Nasi HaDor is and learning to trust him are two different things.
Even after enough Jewish people begin agreeing on who the Nasi HaDor is, there could still be years of spiritual growth ahead.
How can trust in Hashem and the Nasi grow?
The goal is not for only a small group to develop the trust needed for redemption, but for everyone to learn how to trust Hashem and the Nasi He sends.
That trust can grow through learning, understanding, becoming emotionally mature, and building a deeper relationship with the Creator.
