A difficult situation can bring you to the limit of how you normally think and feel.
At that point, trying harder from the same mindset may not be enough.
Sometimes the way out of survival mode starts by noticing more deeply how much of life is still a gift.

How much of your life is still a gift?

You did not create your own existence. You did not create your ability to think, learn, love, heal, or build relationships. Even in a difficult moment, there is still much more happening in your life than the pain you currently feel.

Can you understand a deeper relationship with the Creator first?

Sometimes you can understand a deeper relationship with the Creator before you are able to feel it.
That understanding can itself raise you.

Can noticing how much of life is a gift give you inner strength?

Noticing how much of life is a gift can give you inner strength. It can make it easier to practice healthy boundaries, tell the truth, and respond with deeper compassion instead of only reacting from fear, anger, or the need to keep the peace.

What if you still feel afraid, alone, angry, or stuck?

You may still feel afraid, alone, angry, or stuck. But your mind can understand that this feeling is not the whole story.
That is not fake spirituality.
You are allowing your mind to notice goodness and relationship that your emotions may not be able to feel yet.
That higher way of seeing can slowly change how you relate to what is happening.

It can also bring joy.
Joy can come from realizing that the story you currently feel is not the whole story, and that life itself is still a gift.

How can a difficult situation raise you up?

This is one way a difficult situation can become an opportunity to be raised up. You are not only trying harder from your current level. You are allowing a deeper understanding of your soul [the part of your personality that wants to feel awe, love, and joy more deeply] to enter your life and give you more strength to live with boundaries and compassion, even before you fully feel that level.

Based on ideas from this Muga talk of the Rebbe: Hinneni Mamtir 5737.

Questions people ask

How do you get out of survival mode in a difficult situation?

Sometimes the way out of survival mode starts with awareness, the emotional skill of noticing. Here it means noticing more deeply how much of life is still a gift. Trying harder from the same mindset may not be enough. You did not create your own existence, and there is more happening in your life than the pain you feel.

Is it fake spirituality to understand what you can't feel yet?

No. Sometimes you can understand a deeper relationship with the Creator before you are able to feel it, and that understanding can itself raise you. You may still feel afraid, alone, angry, or stuck. The emotional skill here is awareness: letting your mind notice goodness and relationship that your emotions may not be able to feel yet.

How can seeing life as a gift help you set healthy boundaries?

Noticing how much of life is a gift can give you inner strength. That strength can make it easier to practice emotional skills like healthy boundaries and telling the truth. You can. The emotional skill here is noticing more than the pain. That higher way of seeing can slowly change how you relate to what is happening, and it can also bring joy. Joy can come from realizing that the story you currently feel is not the whole story, and that life itself is still a gift.
