Maimonides [Rambam] describes the World to Come as fully spiritual

It comes after the Messianic era (which may be an era that is for 1 day or 200+ years, depends on when all the Jewish people learn to trust the Creator is good and accept the leadership/teachings of the ‘Moses’ He sent, building trust requires self trust, the leader has to be beloved by all Jewish people, the Rebbe shared this idea to help us reach the Messianic era sooner: people should demand more revealed goodness from the Creator while developing the mindset that “I’m here to be a channel for goodness towards my self and others.”),

and the spiritual part of the world to come era happens in the world of souls.

That means you are the same personality,

feeling emotions and relationship,

but without physical pleasure or physical suffering.

In that world,

every soul thirsts to know the Creator more.

It wants to feel deeper awe,

which is a blend of sadness,

fear, and wonder.

Accurate interpretations of Torah allow the soul to feel deeper spiritual emotions,

and build deeper relationships.

Wisdom helps one feel awe, connection.

Noticing the wonder of the universe will also allow souls to feel awe.

A relationship with the Creator begins when one feels awe towards His greatness and it deepens through expressing appreciation for the gifts you can notice.

The righteous soul will experience the good it became ready for,

through processed shame,

and having practiced responsibility in the physical world.

That means learning to live morally,

not selfishly, not through people pleasing or avoidance.

The soul will not haunted by regret,

because as a human being it practiced honesty,

responsibility, and care.

It trusts itself more,

because it has evidence from a lifetime of choosing them,

and learned how to practice relationship without hiding.

A soul that practiced denial a whole life may still feel some awe,

joy, and love in that era.

But ongoing guilt and shame can diminish the spiritual pleasure like joy and wonder,

because the deepest repair/reparations can only happen when the soul returns to the physical world.

According to the Arizal and Chassidus,

the World to Come is ultimately fulfilled in the physical world through resurrection of the dead for all nations,

when the body itself becomes a vessel for G-dliness [healthy giving].

Based on the Talmud,

it seems the soul-only stage may last around 1,000–2,000 years,

though the exact length is not fully clear.

It may depend on how united humanity lives in this era.

Resurrection also does not necessarily begin at the same time for everyone.

The righteous rise first,

while those who lived more selfishly need more time in the world of souls before returning, maybe the righteous return after 1000 years and everyone else over the next 1000.

Many of Maimonides teachings were published in Judeo-Arabic.

“The soul-only (no body) World to Come may last 1,000-2,000 years, but Kabbalah says it is not the final destination.”
