Your career becomes more fragile when you stop developing a craft. The Talmud records a saying quoted by Rava: “There may be seven years of famine, but it does not enter the craftsman’s door.” The idea is simple. When you have a valuable craft, you have something you can use to create value even when circumstances change.
What Counts as a Valuable Craft Now?
But what counts as a valuable craft changes. For a long time, many kinds of routine digital work were valuable because they required a person to do them, things like data entry, basic research, simple editing, formatting, moving information from one place to another, or producing basic written and visual work. AI can now do more and more of this routine digital labor.
So developing a craft cannot just mean becoming very good at following a repeatable process. Your craft has to involve abilities that keep creating value even as the tools get better. Content creation is one of those crafts.
Why Is Content Creation a Valuable Craft?
Not because posting on social media is special, but because creating great content forces you to practice several skills at once: understanding people, explaining complicated ideas simply, finding what is interesting, writing hooks that create curiosity, telling stories, using visuals, studying feedback, and developing taste. Taste is the ability to recognize what is good when there is no rulebook that can simply tell you the answer. There is no formula that can always tell you, “This is the best hook,” “This story is interesting,” “This visual feels right,” or “This idea is worth talking about.” You have to develop the judgment to know.
How Do You Develop Taste and Judgment?
And that judgment comes from practice. You start learning why one idea reaches 100 people while another reaches 100,000. You notice where people lose interest, which explanations feel clear, which hooks create curiosity, and which visuals make someone stop scrolling.
You cannot develop all of that by reading another guide about content creation. You develop it by creating.
Post. See what people respond to. Change the hook. Explain the idea differently. Try another visual. Notice where people lose interest. Then do it again.
Does AI Remove the Need for Craft?
AI can make this process much faster, but AI does not remove the need for craft. It raises the standard. When almost anyone can produce average digital work in seconds, the ability to decide what is actually good becomes more valuable.
The routine work becomes easier. The judgment becomes more important.
Why Is Studying Emotional Skills Not Enough?
The same principle applies to emotional skills.
You can study awareness, boundaries, compassion, communication, or self-forgiveness for years and still struggle to use them when a real situation becomes uncomfortable. Studying can teach you what the skill is. Practice teaches your nervous system how to actually use it.
You learn boundaries by setting them. You learn awareness by noticing what is happening in you during a real conversation. You learn compassion by practicing it when you feel hurt, defensive, or overwhelmed.
At some point, more understanding is not the main thing you need. You need reps. You do not need to make every post great, and you do not need to handle every emotional situation perfectly.
You need to become better at the craft through practice. Your growth could be on pause simply because you are studying a skill you should be practicing.

The blog lists all the difference patterns to study, understanding patterns is how one can develop 'Daas' [felt knowing].
Update: As awe, trust, and love deepen, they can allow greater openness and intimacy with the Creator. That intimacy can include sadness when you notice how much more of His goodness can be revealed.
