Because if G-d’s love were conditional, the Jewish story would have ended long ago. But it didn’t. Not in exile. Not in destruction. Not in suffering.
And that’s where the deepest truth appears:
Jewish suffering describes an element of a level of the Creators Essence, because only unconditional love survives that kind of darkness (the highest level can't be described with words or ideas).
A love that chooses, returns and rebuilds.
A love that survives the fire and keeps holding on.
When the Jewish people endure darkness and still turn toward G-d, and G-d holds onto us through every generation, you see something no philosophy can explain:
A relationship that is beyond reason, imagination, beyond worthiness, beyond creation itself.
This is what jewish wisdom calls Atzmus (His Essence), the unconditional love that G-d doesn't lack revealing itself through the Jewish soul.

So when we say:
“The Jewish people are chosen to be a channel for G-dliness, His light, giving”
we mean:
Through our history, including our suffering, the world sees the one truth nothing can erase:
G-d’s Essence doesn't lack unconditional love, and the Jewish people are a vessel revealing that.

Update: As awe, trust, and love deepen, they can allow greater openness and intimacy with the Creator. That intimacy can include sadness when you notice how much more of His goodness can be revealed.
