You can believe in an infinite Creator and still have no idea why you should desire an emotionally healthy relationship with Him.

For someone to deeply desire a healthy relationship with the Creator, belief by itself is often not enough.
You need a way of understanding reality that makes the relationship emotionally meaningful, so spirituality can be lived through awe, love, and joy, rather than being driven mainly by guilt, worry, and shame.
This is one of the roles of Jewish mysticism.

What does Jewish mysticism explain about reality?

It explains a philosophy and psychology of reality: who the Creator is in relation to creation, why a world of separate human personalities exists, what the soul is, why the Creator wants to be known within physical life, and how our thoughts, emotions, choices, and relationships can become expressions of that purpose.
The Creator is beyond every description, yet He chose to express His wisdom and goodness through creation and to make intimacy with Him possible within it.

Your personality is therefore not something spirituality is trying to erase. It is something that can become a better expression of its Source.
As you understand this framework more deeply, spirituality becomes less about obeying an invisible authority and more about learning how to live in relationship with the Source of your existence.

How can awe, love, and joy grow?

You begin to notice patterns of wisdom in reality and feel awe that the Creator is here. As you understand His goodness and what He desires, trust and love can grow. Joy can come from noticing that life is a gift.

Why doesn’t responsibility have to come from guilt?

Then responsibility does not have to be driven mainly by guilt, worry, or shame. As the relationship becomes more real, accepting responsibility for how you live can become part of what you desire because you want your life to express that relationship.

What makes a relationship with the Creator worth wanting?

Jewish mysticism gives the mind a framework through which the soul’s desire for its Source can become understandable to the human personality.
Without that framework, ideas about the Creator can remain abstract, frightening, transactional, or emotionally meaningless.
With it, spirituality can become the process of understanding reality deeply enough that awe, love, and joy make a healthy relationship with the Creator feel worth wanting.

Questions people ask

Why is believing in the Creator not enough?

Belief tells you the Creator exists, but by itself it often does not make the relationship emotionally meaningful. You also need a way of understanding reality that builds emotional skills, the practiced ways you notice, understand, and respond to what you feel. Then spirituality can be lived through awe, love, and joy instead of mainly guilt, worry, and shame.

What is the purpose of Jewish mysticism?

One of its roles is to give your mind a framework that makes the soul’s desire for its Source understandable. It explains how your thoughts, emotions, and choices can express the Creator’s purpose. Without it, ideas about Him can stay abstract or frightening; with it, as you understand His goodness, emotional skills like trust and love can grow.

Does spirituality erase your personality?

No. The Creator chose to express His wisdom and goodness through creation, and your personality is part of that. The emotional skill here is not erasing who you are. It is learning to live in relationship with your Source instead of obeying an invisible authority, so your thoughts, emotions, and choices can become a better expression of Him.

What does an emotionally healthy relationship with the Creator look like?

It is lived through awe, love, and joy, not guilt, worry, and shame. Three emotional skills carry it: noticing patterns of wisdom in reality so awe can come, understanding His goodness so trust and love can grow, and noticing life is a gift so joy can follow. Then accepting responsibility for how you live can become something you want.

“You can believe in an infinite Creator and still have no idea why you should desire an emotionally healthy relationship with Him.”

The blog lists all the difference patterns to study, understanding patterns is how one can develop 'Daas' [felt knowing].
Update: As awe, trust, and love deepen, they can allow greater openness and intimacy with the Creator. That intimacy can include sadness when you notice how much more of His goodness can be revealed.
