A lot of Chassidus builds on ideas

discussed by Rabbeinu Bachya ibn Pekudah, who published many of his teachings in Judeo-Arabic.

One of the ideas he teaches is that every soul accepted its mission before entering this world.

Life is not an accident.

Each person arrives with a purpose and a unique role in revealing goodness.

A person’s task is not to live someone else’s life, but to fulfill the purpose they were given.

The purpose of life is to live before the Creator through awareness, relationship, gratitude, trust, and responsibility.

The belief that serving the Creator is pointless is ultimately the belief that a relationship between a human being and an Infinite Being cannot matter.

Low self-esteem is not only believing “I do not matter.” It is believing that the Creator’s desire for a relationship with me cannot matter.

When a person believes their actions cannot matter to the Creator, they are ultimately believing that they themselves do not matter enough for relationship, responsibility, and purpose to be real.

“Your choices matter because the Creator chose for them to matter.” – Rabbeinu Bachya

The Alter Rebbe explains that relationship with the Creator begins when a person feels awe.

Awe includes sadness that His goodness can always be more revealed, fear before His greatness as it means our choices matter, and wonder that the Infinite Creator chooses to relate to a physical world. ⭕️

“To comprehend the greatness and the goodness of the Creator, one has to give a lot of though to the wonder of nature”
