You can understand something deeply and still not live as though it is real.
That is one reason belief in the Creator can remain an idea without becoming a relationship.
Chassidus teaches that deeper connection develops by learning to recognize patterns of relationship and intimacy.
What Patterns of Relationship Can You Notice?
You notice patterns of wisdom and order in existence.
You notice how your choices matter.
And you can notice how very different personalities can become deeply united, almost like inseparable friends, when they develop enough honesty, compassion, boundaries, trust, and responsibility.
Their differences do not have to disappear for the relationship to become deeper.
Recognizing patterns like that can deepen awe.
You begin to see that reality contains structures that make deep relationship possible.
How Does Awe Open Into Love?
If you believe these patterns come from One Creator with intelligence and free choice, they can begin to feel like expressions of His wisdom and desire for relationship.
You are no longer only thinking:
“There is a Creator.”
You begin to feel awe at the kind of wisdom that can make unity possible without erasing difference.
As trust grows in His goodness, awe can open into love.
Can Real Closeness Also Hold Sadness?
And as awe, love, and trust deepen together, greater intimacy with the Creator becomes possible.
That intimacy can also contain sadness.
When the world is full of suffering, cruelty, loneliness, and hidden goodness, greater closeness can make you feel more deeply that His goodness could be much more revealed.
The sadness is not because the relationship is weaker.
It can come because the relationship feels more real.
That deeper connection can also change what feels important.
What Changes Inside You as Connection Deepens?
Small frustrations do not need to control as much of your emotional world.
Different desires and parts within you do not have to fight for complete control.
Fear, sadness, desire, responsibility, compassion, and other parts of your personality can increasingly exist in relationship with each other.
Can People Stay Different and Still Find Peace?
And the same thing can happen between people.
Peace does not require everyone to become the same.
It requires enough depth of relationship that difference no longer automatically feels like a threat.
This is why Chassidus connects deeper awareness of the Creator with greater peace.
The more we recognize and internalize patterns of relationship and intimacy, the more awe, love, trust, intimacy, and even meaningful sadness can deepen, and the more capacity we can develop for peace within ourselves and with other people.
The goal is not only to know something true about the Creator.
It is for that truth to become deep enough that your personality can live inside the relationship.

Questions people ask
Why does my belief in G-d feel like an idea instead of a relationship?
Understanding is not the same as living inside a relationship. That is one reason belief in the Creator can remain an idea. Chassidus teaches that deeper connection develops through an emotional skill: awareness. You practice it by noticing patterns of relationship and intimacy, and how your choices matter. As that noticing grows, belief can become a relationship.
How do you build a real relationship with the Creator?
Through emotional skills. Start with awareness: notice how very different personalities can become deeply united when they develop enough honesty, compassion, boundaries, trust, and responsibility. Differences do not have to disappear. Recognizing patterns like that can deepen awe. Then practice trust: as trust in His goodness grows, awe can open into love, and greater intimacy with the Creator becomes possible.
Is it normal to feel sad as you grow closer to G-d?
Yes. In a world full of suffering, cruelty, loneliness, and hidden goodness, greater closeness can make you feel more deeply that His goodness could be much more revealed. That kind of sadness can signal a relationship that feels more real, not a weaker one. The emotional skill is letting yourself feel it safely.
Does inner peace mean all the different parts of me have to agree?
No. Different desires and parts within you do not have to fight for complete control. The emotional skill is letting fear, sadness, desire, responsibility, and compassion exist in relationship with each other, just as different people can stay different and still be united. As connection deepens, small frustrations do not need to control as much of your emotional world.
“The more you notice how intimacy works, the more meaningful belief in the Creator can become.”

The blog lists all the difference patterns to study, understanding patterns is how one can develop 'Daas' [felt knowing].
Update: As awe, trust, and love deepen, they can allow greater openness and intimacy with the Creator. That intimacy can include sadness when you notice how much more of His goodness can be revealed.
